COLLAGE E8 Audio Labs · live glitch-processing instrument V4 engine · beta

COLLAGE :// live glitch instrument

Feed it a sound. Move its spectrum, grains, polarity, and time.

Collage runs your signal forward through a reorderable corridor of five stations — SPECTRAL, GRANULAR, MANGLE, TIME and PLEAT — while an always-on control plane moves their parameters. There is no capture step and no print step: insert it, load a preset or move one control, and hear a deliberate result.

LIVE DEMO

A corridor you can play.

Press play and the browser runs an original E8 track through a working approximation of the V4 corridor — five stations with their real controls, a reorderable chain, and the four macros. Click a station to pull it into the apron.

S SPECTRAL

Takes the spectrum apart and moves the pieces.

MOVE
MACROS

Signal corridor: the stream runs forward through the five stations in the order the cards show, then into the MIX · HP · LP master path — no recirculation, nothing recorded first. The focused station draws its transformation in the glass; the others report their activity beside it.

Press Play, then click a station to pull its controls into the apron. PWR stations in and out, nudge the order with ‹ ›, and lean on the four macros. Seeded with SPECTRAL + GRANULAR engaged.

How it works

Insert, corridor, move, perform.

Collage is an instrument, not a chain of presets. The audio only ever runs forward; everything that evolves is the control plane moving the controls — live, from the first block.

  1. 01 INSERT Drop it on a track. Sound from the first block — nothing must be recorded first.
  2. 02 CORRIDOR The stream runs forward through five stations. Reorder them, power them, split them into two lanes.
  3. 03 MOVE An always-on control plane — input followers, LFOs, envelope followers, scenes, the vector path — moves the knobs.
  4. 04 PERFORM Four macros and a morph pad play the whole rack at once.

The instrument

The signal corridor.

The stream is the hero: the corridor glass draws the focused station's transformation from live telemetry while the machined apron below carries its controls, the macros, and the morph pad.

The Collage V4 interface in the DECK theme: the signal corridor drawing PLEAT's fold trace, the morph/vector pad open, five station cards, the machined control apron and the four modulator lanes

Stations

Five stations, one corridor.

SPECTRAL

Takes the spectrum apart and moves the pieces.

SHIFT · SCATTER · PARTS · TRANS · DIVERGE · FOCUS · TILT

GRANULAR

Rebuilds the stream out of independently placed grains.

SIZE · DENSITY · POSITION · PITCH · SPRAY · SPREAD

MANGLE

Bends the waveform through a multipolar transfer curve.

DRIVE · SHAPE · SPLIT · STAGES

TIME

Reads the stream back at its own rate and position.

RATE · POS · PITCH · SHAPE · WEAVE

PLEAT

Folds the signal against itself, pleat by pleat.

DRIVE · FOLD · SPLIT · STAGES

The always-on control plane

The differentiator: modulation is always live and always on. Input followers, two LFOs, two envelope followers, four scenes and an authored vector path drag onto any knob; four macros — THROTTLE, COLOR, GRAIN and DRIFT — drive the whole rack; the corridor can split into two parallel lanes and crossfade between them. The control plane observes the audio and moves the controls — the stream itself only ever runs forward.
